Is Compounding For You? Physicians may prescribe an individually compounded medication for a patient to meet their specific health need. This allows the physician to customize a prescription for that particular individual. Compounded preparations are prescribed for various reasons, some of which may be:
History Of Compounding Long before medications were manufactured by pharmaceutical companies, they were individually compounded by pharmacists for each specific patient need. The need for these medications were in such high demand the compounding pharmacists began to mass manufacture certain drugs. We are now starting to realizing that these manufacturers cannot fully fill the needs of every patient. This is where we come in, to once again individualize patient medication therapy. As in the past, the compounding pharmacist practices the art and science of preparing prescribed prescriptions and is known as the “problem solver”. Today, this is essential in the triad relationship of the patient, physician and pharmacist as we can all work together to solve your (the patient's) unique health need. |
